Kim Hye-jin (played by Hwang Jung Eum) used to be a pretty girl when she was younger. However, when she becomes an adult, her appearance changes, losing her beauty. Meanwhile, Ji Sung-joon (played by Park Seo Joon) used to be fat and unattractive boy, but now grown up to be a handsome and successful man. Both are childhood friends and decided to meet again as adults, but things go awry as Sung-joon didn’t recognise Hye-jin.
I really like the important message She Was Pretty gives out – pretty isn’t just on the outside, it’s also on the inside. Kim Hye-jin is the perfect example of it. Despite her look because of the genes from her father, she has bright, positive and loving personality. She is one who gives it all, which makes the people around her entranced by her beautiful personality.
Sung-joon, even though he didn’t recognise her in the first place, unknowingly fell for her because she was his first childhood love. Despite her look, he doesn’t even say anything about her look and loves her for who she is. Now, that’s one of my ideal type. 😛
Though I feel that Episode 15 would have been a nice open-ended ending, the final episode 16 gives a nice closure of what will happen next during one year. It’s a sweet and happy ending which satisfies us, the viewers, in the way we expect from them. I am glad that there isn’t plot twist or any “danger” in last minute. Oh wait. In fact, there isn’t any one throughout the show. The only thing the show did is making us laugh out loud throughout whole series.
I am quite upset that they didn’t give Kim Shin-hyuk (played by Choi Siwon) whose identity turns out to be the famous writer TEN, trolling us all as most of us thought he was the secret chaebol, much screen time in the last and final episode. Regarding his true identity, it’s a nice twist and I love it. Because it’s different from the common one. Kim Shin-hyuk played a big part in delivering humorous element to the show and I love Choi Siwon more for this. Yes, the idol-actor himself. I almost forgot that he is part of Super Junior and I bet that his bromance with the members paid off when he did the bromance part with Park Seo Joon, hehe. 😀
The last episode gives us insight on how Shin-hyuk has been travelling overseas to hide his identity as TEN since he revealed his face to save The Most magazine. Why you no reunite Shin-hyuk with Hye-jin, writer?! But that’d be typical.
Besides the bromance rivals, it’s also nice to see Hye-jin’s sisterhood friendship with Min Ha-ri (played by Go Joon Hee) being sweet and still intact, even after what they had gone through. They always support each other, even in bad times, and their dreams.
All that aside, I have been expecting a surprise cameo from Ji Sung whom Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon have worked with in Kill Me, Heal Me! Oh cries. I guess he must have been busy because of his family. At least, he had sent food to them to support their drama, aw. Their friendship love is the best!
She Was Pretty merrily concluded with the Korean viewership ratings of 15.9%, which shows it’s one of the hit dramas and I am glad about that for Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon since their last project with Ji Sung, Kill Me, Heal Me, was also a hit. Cheers to them!
